This Capitalization worksheet is designed for the 5-6 years children when they are first introduced to sentences.

When children learn to read and write, it is important for them to understand which words to capitalize and why. It helps them to understand and interpret the sentences better. Capitalization is an important rule to form a correct sentence. With the help of capitalization and punctuation marks, the whole meaning of sentences changes.

What is Capitalization?

Capitalization is the writing of a word with its first letter in uppercase and the remaining letters in lowercase. It has 7 rules to follow. We have studied and practiced capitalization rule #1 in the previous worksheet. Let us now learn about capitalization rule 2.

Capitalization Rule # 2

Capitalize names and other proper nouns–Always capitalize the names of a person, place, or things which are basically proper nouns.

The names of cities, countries, and companies are proper nouns, so they should also be capitalized.

For example, in the following sentences–

• My favorite football player is Ronaldo.
• Rohit and Shaily met at Heena’s house.
• We are going to Singapore next week.

Ronaldo, Rohit, Shaily, Heena, and Singapore are in the capital because they are the names of a person or place.

This capitalization worksheet will help the child to practice correcting sentences based on rule 2 of capitalization.

How to Practice Capitalization Using this Rule 2 Worksheet?

Every sentence mentioned in the worksheet carries a name or a proper noun. Let the child identify the proper noun. They will rewrite the sentence with the capitalization of the first word (rule #1) and capitalization of the proper noun(rule #2)

For example – my favorite book is harry potter.

Rewrite it as: My favorite book is Harry Potter.

When the children will write the complete sentence with the correct format, it would be easier for them to comprehend the capitalization rule. Such sentences would also help them understand proper nouns.
